How to Use This Guide
The calculator above gives baseline portions for two meals a day, straight from our feeding chart. Every dog is unique — use the activity setting to nudge portions up or down, and adjust further based on your dog's condition over a few weeks.
Life Stage Considerations
- Puppies (under 12 months): Growing puppies typically need more frequent meals (3-4 times daily) and higher caloric intake. Consult your vet for specific puppy nutrition needs.
- Adult Dogs (1-7 years): Follow the standard feeding guide based on weight and activity level.
- Senior Dogs (7+ years): May have slower metabolism and need portion adjustments. Monitor weight closely and adjust as needed.
- Pregnant/Nursing Dogs: Have significantly increased nutritional needs. Please contact us for customized meal plans.
Signs Your Dog Is Eating the Right Amount
- Maintains a healthy weight with visible waist when viewed from above
- Ribs can be felt but not prominently visible
- Consistent energy levels throughout the day
- Healthy, shiny coat
- Regular, firm bowel movements
- Good muscle tone
Transitioning to Fresh Food
Switch gradually over about two weeks so your dog's gut adjusts — mix the new food into the old at both meals and raise its share every few days: about 10% on days 1–3, 25% on days 4–6, 40% on 7–9, 60% on 10–12, 75% on 13–14, then fully fresh from day 15. Start from the portions above and monitor your dog's weight and condition, adjusting as needed.
Fresh Food vs. Kibble & Retort Pouches
How is fresh dog food different from kibble and retort pouches?
Kibble is extruded under high heat and retort pouches are sterilised at high heat and pressure so they can sit on a shelf — both are heavily processed. Pawsitive Life meals are gently cooked from whole, human-grade ingredients, then refrigerated and delivered fresh, so they need no preservatives or fillers.
Is fresh food better for my dog than processed pet food?
Fresh, minimally processed food is more digestible and nutrient-dense than highly processed kibble or heat-sterilised retort pouches. Our recipes are formulated by our canine nutritionist and are vet-approved, and many pet parents report better digestion, energy and coat within a few weeks of switching.
Are Pawsitive Life recipes complete and balanced?
Yes. Every recipe is formulated by our canine nutritionist to be complete and balanced for the life stage it is made for — including balanced calcium and phosphorus — and reviewed by our consulting veterinarian in Bhopal.
Does the food contain preservatives or fillers?
No. Because meals are cooked fresh and delivered on a schedule rather than sitting on a shelf, they contain no artificial preservatives, colours or fillers — just whole ingredients.
Who makes and approves the food?
Recipes are developed by our canine nutritionist and reviewed by our consulting veterinarian, then cooked fresh in small batches in Bhopal and delivered to your door.
When to Consult Your Vet
While our feeding guide works for most healthy dogs, please consult your veterinarian if your dog:
- Has medical conditions requiring special diets
- Is significantly overweight or underweight
- Has food allergies or sensitivities
- Is pregnant or nursing
- Shows sudden changes in appetite or weight
